Kitchens with a country look and feel have a unique appeal. They are refreshing, colorful and warm, which makes the time in the kitchen more pleasant for you and your family. If you love country style, there are several simple ways in which you can incorporate it into your kitchen. This post suggests some decorating ideas to help you decorate your kitchen in country style.
1. Floor and panels
The flat board panels reflect the country style strongly. To give your kitchen a look of assembled over time, incorporate variations in its finish (paint or stain), placement (horizontal or vertical), and in the board width. Adding panels to the island gives texture to the base of the island. You can add panels to the front and back of the cabinets as well.
What is another feature of country style? It is linoleum and wood flooring. Consider refinishing or painting your kitchen’s old wood floors. When choosing the new floor, go for linoleum tiles or laminate with a distressed wood look, in the checkerboard pattern.
2. Splash some colors
The white kitchens need to be spiced up a bit. Add a dash of vibrant colors to liven up your kitchen. You might consider going to the red barn for a little dishware and island stools. Place some vintage game boards on the shelves, and paint the built-in sideboard or other shelves country blue. Add vibrancy to the kitchen space by using Americana colors.
3. Create shows
Country style kitchens are not complete without enough display space to include collections of tin jars, cake plates, ironstone and other types of farmhouse antiques. Replace the upper cabinet doors made of solid wood, with glass front types. Add shelves between the cabinets, or you can simply paint the interior of the wall cabinets and remove their doors.
4. Use die cut decoration items
You can come up with some really great home and kitchen decor items with die cutting. If you have die cutting equipment and some scrapbook paper at home, start creating decorative items on your own. Cut out different shapes from scrapbook paper and create a collage on canvas. Place it on one of your kitchen walls for inexpensive art. Go for rustic colors in scrapbook paper and choose to cut out shapes that match your country style kitchen.
5. Choose a vintage style
Go for sink and faucet styles that reflect a vintage look and feel. A polished chrome bridge style faucet and apron front sink give a great country feel to a kitchen.
6. Splurge to upgrade
Although things like Carrara marble countertops make for an expensive purchase, things like these can instantly update a kitchen space and give it a clean appeal.
7. Go to the storage facility
To place things like a microwave and storage bags, build a few doorless box units under the cabinets and/or on top of the fridge. This makes for an integrated and easy storage solution.
8. Add details to reflect the style of the country
Incorporate great country details in the kitchen such as brackets under the cabinets.
9. Embrace simplicity
For a country style kitchen, the key is pastoral simplicity. Go for a backsplash made of white subway tiles to give a shine without any distraction. This option is quite affordable since you can get white tiles that are cheap, in home centers.
10. Desk with outside view
A desk can be created in the kitchen space by using a cabinet drawer unit, or suspending a ledge. Create this table under a window, and between two cabinets. Combine the table with a farmhouse style chair, to give a great country feel to the space.
So, line up to make some changes in your kitchen decor to give it a country look and feel. Your new kitchen is sure to have a more inviting atmosphere, and serves as a great place for gatherings and meals with family and friends.
